Sorghum halepense
Johnson Grass is a tall, aggressive non-native invasive grass species introduced from the Mediterranean as livestock forage. Spreading via massive, creeping underground rhizomes and heavy seed crops, it rapidly chokes out native warm-season bunchgrasses across Hill Country pastures and riparian draws. Under drought stress or frost, it produces toxic prussic acid (cyanide), and its dense dry biomass drastically increases wildfire intensity.
