Vinca major
Greater Periwinkle is a trailing non-native evergreen vine with glossy oval leaves and showy lilac-blue tubular flowers. Escaped from landscape gardens, it spreads aggressively via rooting runners along shaded draws, creek beds, and woodland floors across the Hill Country. Forming dense monotypic carpets, it smothers native spring ephemeral wildflowers and prevents natural regeneration of native tree saplings.
