Styphnolobium affine
Eve's Necklacepod is a graceful native small tree or shrub endemic to Central and West Texas limestone hillsides. In spring, it bears drooping racemes of fragrant, wisteria-like pinkish-white flowers that lure hummingbirds and butterflies. By summer, these blossoms yield distinctive seed pods constricted tightly between each seed, resembling a string of black beads. Though its seeds contain toxic alkaloids that deter seed-eating pests, its flowers provide vital nectar.
