Escarpment Live Oak
Quercus fusiformis
Tree
🦋 Central Texas Larval Host
Description
Escarpment Live Oak is the defining keystone canopy tree of Woodline Ranch and the Texas Hill Country. Forming sprawling, interconnected evergreen groves via underground root runners, its massive limbs shade the landscape and anchor shallow limestone topsoil against erosion. A single mature live oak supports over 500 species of native insects, provides nesting habitat for birds, and produces sweet acorn crops that sustain white-tailed deer, scrub jays, wild turkeys, and squirrels through winter.
