Zephyranthes drummondii
Drummond's Rain Lily (Giant Prairie Rain Lily) is an enchanting native bulbous perennial that lies dormant beneath limestone soils until triggered by sudden warm rainfall. Within days of a summer rainstorm, erect leafless stems shoot up topped by large, snowy-white blossoms that open in the evening and emit a sweet night fragrance. These blossoms rely on nocturnal sphinx moths and early-morning solitary bees for pollination before setting seed and returning to dormancy beneath the prairie sod.
