Description
Downy Forestiera (Elbowbush) is a sprawling, multi-stemmed native shrub named for its distinctive right-angled stem branching pattern. In late winter, before its leaves unfold, it bursts into fragrant yellow blossom clusters that offer an indispensable early food source for hungry honeybees and native solitary bees. In midsummer, female plants yield dark blue, oil-rich drupes that are eagerly consumed by songbirds, while its dense, tangled thickets provide secure nesting shelter for wild turkeys, thrushes, and quail.
