Chrysactinia mexicana
Damianita is a tough, highly aromatic native dwarf evergreen shrub boasting fine, needle-like deep green foliage packed with essential oils. Indigenous to dry limestone hillsides, gravelly bluffs, and desert scrub, its resinous leaves emit a strong pine-citrus scent that renders it virtually immune to deer browsing. Following warm rain events, it erupts into dense masses of golden-yellow daisy blooms, supplying rich nectar for native bees, butterflies, and beneficial predatory wasps throughout the hot summer months.
