Nothoscordum bivalve
Crowpoison (False Garlic) is one of the earliest native bulbous wildflowers to wake from winter dormancy in Texas grasslands and oak savannas. Featuring star-shaped white blossoms marked with subtle greenish-purple center stripes, it emerges from underground bulbs as early as February. Although completely odorless to humans (unlike true wild onions), its early-season flowers provide vital first-wave nectar for honeybees and native solitary bees emerging from winter lethargy, heralding the arrival of spring across the ranch.
