Giliastrum rigidulum
Bluebowls is a striking, prostrate native wildflower featuring star-shaped, deep lavender-to-violet blossoms accented by bright yellow central eyes. Resting low against bare limestone gravel and sunny pasture clearings, it opens its delicate petals under full sunlight and closes them during cloudy weather or at night to protect pollen. It serves as a valuable early-to-mid spring nectar station for native solitary bees, bee flies, and small skippers, thriving on bare caliche and rocky slopes where few other delicate annuals can endure the intense midday sun.
