Field Identification: Slender brownish-grey body, long tapered tail with white tips, black spots on the wings, and a soft pinkish wash on the chest.
Texas & Hill Country Notes: In flight, their wing feathers produce a sharp whistling sound that alerts flock members to sudden movements. Mourning Doves produce "crop milk," a protein-rich secretion fed to chicks by both parents during their first week of life.
